South Carolina Airplane Accident Attorneys

Statistics show that airplanes are one of our safest modes of transportation, responsible for far fewer accidents than cars and trucks. But when aircraft do get into accidents, they can be much more devastating, affecting hundreds of victims and their loved ones at once. For families of plane crash accident victims, the consequences, both emotional and financial, can be catastrophic. With no warning, a loved one is taken away forever, without a chance to say goodbye -- and often, because of someone else’s negligence. Whether the aircraft was a commercial airliner, a private aircraft or even military and emergency response equipment, victims of an aviation accident have the right to hold the careless people who caused the crash responsible for their actions.

Unfortunately, pilot error is still the leading cause of plane crashes. However, problems with the design and maintenance of the aircraft; bad judgment about weather safety; and defective parts may all cause an airplane accident as well. The cause of an accident is often not clear at first; evidence is often destroyed in the crash, frustrating efforts to identify exactly who was responsible for the disaster. Because aviation accident cases are so complex, it’s important to make sure you’re represented throughout any official investigation by an experienced aviation accident attorney like the ones at the Louthian Law Firm. Contact us today at 1-866-410-5656 for a free evaluation of your case.

Small, private aircraft are the aircraft most likely to get into a crash. When noncommercial aircraft crash, their pilots, manufacturers, mechanics and others involved in the design and maintenance of the craft are legally liable for the results, under all the same laws that govern injuries on the ground. By contrast, commercial airlines operate under special federal and state rules because they are “common carriers”; they transport people for a fee. That means they’re legally required to be more careful than a private citizen must be -- and may be liable for significantly more damages as a result. The federal agencies in charge of regulating commercial airlines are the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.

Couple Awarded $9.5 Million After Copter Crash

A helicopter manufacturer and a parts maker have agreed to pay $9.5 million to a New Hampshire couple seriously injured in a Hawaiian tour helicopter crash last year, according to their attorney. The Boeing Co. and Aluminum Precision Products settled a lawsuit filed by Judy and Douglas Barton of Newport, N.H. Mrs. Barton was left paralyzed from the waist down while the back injuries her husband suffered prevented him from returning to work.
